Morero cracks down on undocumented foreign businesses

Johannesburg Executive Mayor Dada Morero is urging foreign entrepreneurs to obtain valid documentation from the Department of Home Affairs to operate their businesses legally in South Africa.

In his social media post on X, Mayor Morero remarked, “By collaborating and staying vigilant about these processes, we can devise solutions that prioritise our community’s well-being while fostering fair business practices for everyone involved.”

His social media post follows troubling incident where an eight-year-old boy was admitted to Intensive Care Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital after eating contaminated snacks bought from a spaza shop in Mapetla East, Soweto.

Mayor Morero visited implicated spaza shop to discuss the matter with concerned residents, stirring both curiosity and concern within the community.

Rising tensions have led residents to demand closure of spaza shops owned by foreign nationals, citing the sale of contaminated snacks that have resulted in fatalities in the township and other areas.

This situation highlights  critical need for all businesses, regardless of ownership, to comply with regulations and ensure product safety.
