Toyota SA continues to triumph despite market turbulence

Despite a downturn in vehicle sales, Toyota has impressively captured 25.8% market share with 11,524 registrations.

Leon Theron, the Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Toyota South Africa, acknowledges the challenging forecast for the sector due to political and economic pressures.

Yet, Toyota’s success isn’t accidental; it’s the result of hard work from a dedicated team and robust divisions focused on exceptional customer service.

Supported by top-tier products and brand loyalty, Theron expresses pride in Toyota’s over forty-year reign as the leading car brand.

The most outstanding take-outs from Toyota’s February performance are in the passenger car arena.

Thanks to 1,959 unit sales, the Corolla Cross earned the crown as SA’s most popular passenger car with supporting top-ten performances from Starlet (1,481) and Fortuner (722).

Coming in at number 11 was the Urban Cruiser on 649 units.

Vitz, Corolla Quest and Rumion contributed to the passenger pot with respectable retail numbers of 550, 361 and 333 respectively.

In the luxury SUV market, Prado sold 110 units, Land Cruiser 300 moved 96, and Lexus NX registered 58 sales despite an upcoming new model.

The Hilux retained its spot as SA’s top-selling bakkie and overall vehicle with 3,100 units sold in February, surpassing 3,000 sales. Toyota’s Hiace sold 1,109 units, and Land Cruiser 79 sold 315 units in the LCV category.

Toyota dominated the rental market with a 30.7% share, distributing 1,097 passenger cars and 217 LCVs.

The Hino 500 led Toyota’s commercial sector with 67 sales. For parts, over 1.4 million were distributed locally in February, with an additional 287,148 exported.
