Toyota Urban Cruiser sharpens edge with tech and design upgrades

Toyota South Africa has bolstered its Urban Cruiser line-up with strategic upgrades to the XS and XR models, reinforcing its position in the competitive B-SUV segment.

Since its 2021 launch, the Urban Cruiser has carved a niche as a practical crossover, and these latest enhancements aim to elevate its appeal through improved comfort, technology, and style.

Both variants now feature a rear wiper for all-weather visibility, a leather-wrapped steering wheel replacing the previous urethane finish, and dual rear USB-C ports for streamlined device charging.

The infotainment system gains a larger 9-inch touchscreen, up from 7 inches, offering a more immersive interface for navigation and entertainment.

The XS model steps up with alloy wheels replacing steel units, adding a premium aesthetic, while a retractable luggage shelf enhances boot organization. The range-topping XR variant upgrades to LED headlamps with Automatic Light Control, improving night time visibility, and retains illumination via the Follow Me Home function after engine shutdown.

Retaining its hatchback-SUV hybrid appeal, the Urban Cruiser combines Toyota’s SUV design language—echoing the Fortuner and RAV4—with a 1.5L engine paired to manual or automatic transmissions.

Buyers gain peace of mind with a 4-year/60,000km service plan and 3-year/100,000km warranty, extendable via Toyota’s dealer network.

Pricing starts at R342,700 for the XS manual, rising to R373,800 for the XR automatic. Owners can access Toyota’s Connect services, including in-car Wi-Fi with 25GB of complimentary data, through  MyToyota platform.
