Volvo Car SA ‘dominates electric vehicle market with record sales’

Volvo Car South Africa has solidified its position as a leader in the local electric vehicle segment, with an impressive combined sales total of 467 units between January and September 2024.

The automaker’s three-car-strong range of cutting-edge battery-electric vehicles has positioned Volvo as a frontrunner in the premium electric segment, surpassing rivals in the luxury arena.

Despite offering fewer model options, Volvo has not only maintained its lead in the market but has consistently exceeded competitor sales month after month.

The EX30 has emerged as the best-selling premium EV in South Africa, with 348 units sold in the months leading up to October.

Following closely behind are the XC40 Recharge with 96 units sold and the C40 Recharge with 23 units.

Markus Cromwell, Commercial Director at Volvo Car South Africa, expressed excitement over the record-breaking sales figures, attributing much of the success to the exceptional value offered by the EX30, with a starting price of R791 900.

As Volvo gears up to introduce the flagship EX90 locally, Cromwell anticipates that the brand’s EV sales figures will continue to set new records.

The XC40 Recharge, Volvo SA’s second-best-selling electric vehicle, has also contributed significantly to the brand’s market dominance.

 The remarkable sales of the XC40 Recharge have outpaced rival luxury brands by an impressive 92% and 300%, further highlighting Volvo’s advantage in the electric vehicle market.

With a goal of achieving 90-100% of its global sales to comprise electrified vehicles by 2030, Volvo remains committed to integrating electric options across its entire lineup.

Customers can choose from battery-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and mild hybrids, ensuring a diverse range of choices to meet their needs.
