Volvo Car SA introduces the highly anticipated fully electric Volvo EX30 in SA

With the arrival of the first units of the fully electric Volvo EX30 in South Africa, Volvo Car SA is thrilled to unveil further details about this highly anticipated range.

As previously announced, the local line-up consists of five models, with prices starting at an affordable R775 900, making the EX30 one of the most accessible electric vehicles (EVs) in the country.

Despite its competitive pricing, the EX30 offers impressive performance.

Take the base model, the EX30 Core Single Motor, for example. With peak outputs of 200 kW and 343 Nm, it can go from 0-100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. And with a single-charge range of 344 km on the WLTP cycle, thanks to its high-voltage 51 kWh battery pack, this rear-wheel-drive variant doesn’t compromise on range either.

Moving up the range, the EX30 Plus Single Motor Extended Range features a larger 69 kWh battery pack, increasing the WLTP range to 476 km. Although the power and torque remain the same, the 0-100 km/h time improves to 5.3 seconds. The EX30 Ultra Single Motor Extended Range also uses this powertrain, resulting in the same range.

But for those looking for even more power, the EX30 Plus Twin Motor Performance comes with a second electric motor, delivering a whopping 315 kW and 543 Nm. With a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.6 seconds, this all-wheel-drive powertrain makes the EX30 the fastest-accelerating Volvo ever.

Both the EX30 Ultra Twin Motor Performance and the Plus Twin Motor Performance have a single-charge range of 460 km on the WLTP cycle.

According to Greg Maruszewski, Managing Director of Volvo Car SA, the diverse range of performance and single-charge range options in the EX30 line-up caters to a wide range of customers.

“We wanted to give our customers as much choice as possible, which is why we offer different battery sizes and single- or twin-motor configurations. But the EX30 is more than just a powerful and efficient electric vehicle. It also sets new standards in safety, sustainability, and specification.”

Even the base model, the EX30 Core, comes with a generous list of features, including a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, rear park assist, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The mid-spec Plus model adds even more luxuries, such as ambient interior lighting, wireless smartphone charging, and a premium sound system, while also upgrading to 19-inch alloy wheels and front-and-rear park assist.

The flagship Ultra model boasts extra luxuries like a panoramic sunroof, powered front seats, and a 360-degree parking camera.

The EX30’s local launch will solidify Volvo Car SA’s strong presence in the rapidly growing new-energy vehicle market, while also making electric cars more accessible to South Africans. Orders for the EX30 can be placed on the MyVolvo website .Prices for the EX30 are as follows:
